Construction Act Update Seminar

Please join us for a breakfast seminar on January 31st to discuss the recent Construction Act updates

Major changes to the Construction Act came into force on October 1, 2019. Alastair McNish, of Chitiz Pathak LLP, will discuss the amendments and how they affect owners, contractors, subcontractors, and professional advisors to parties involved in construction projects.

The focus of the discussion will be on the new “prompt payment” and adjudication regimes, which impose tight – and mandatory – deadlines for making payments down the construction pyramid, objecting to making a payment, and challenging the basis for non-payment.

Construction contracts entered into after October 1st, 2019 are subject to a very different legal framework than what existed under the Construction Lien Act.  This is an opportunity to get a solid grounding on the new law and how it affects those involved in, or advising on, construction projects in Ontario.

Rose Femia and Jack Massarelli from Fazzari + Partners LLP will be providing a synopsis of the changes that will be required to your accounting system to ensure these deadlines are met, what a proper invoice looks like and how to track your trust accounts to ensure payment deadlines are met, and as well tracking non payments as a result of a dispute.
