The world of investigative interviewing and the methods taught to investigative interviewers are at a critical crossroads. Courts are increasingly questioning traditional interview approaches, which tend to rely on deception detection methodology and are heavily focused toward eliciting confessions. This session will discuss emerging trends impacting investigative interviewing, advancing methods supported by science (i.e., PEACE, Motivational interviewing) which are gaining traction all over the world. Participants will benefit from watching compelling real-life interview clips from both well executed and poorly executed interviews.

Scott Porter, CPA, CA, DIFA, CFF

Scott has over 20 years of investigative and forensic accounting experience, including prior roles at a “Big 4” firm as well as the regulatory enforcement division responsible for investigating CPAs and CPA firms alleged to have committed serious breaches of professional misconduct. He has led numerous investigations across myriad industries, conducting hundreds of interviews of witnesses and subjects, encompassing areas such as auditor/accountant professional conduct, employee/management fraud, foreign corruption, tax evasion, securities fraud, and financial statement misrepresentation. As a result of this extensive experience, he has testified on several occasions. Scott has presented at numerous international anti-fraud conferences for organizations such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
